This blog was created for you, our family and friends:
You know, Gill and I are usually very private people :) but we so eagerly want to share our travels with you. We want to share our experiences with you because more and more often we find ourselves saying, "don't you wish so and so were here with us?" We share this blog with you, read, laugh and take a mini vacation with us (hopefully you we wont bore you). We hope to inspire you to join us on one of our trips one day....
This is our 2nd trip to the International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato Mexico.
In brief, the Cervantino is as I have described to some of you before as; an international art festival, Mardi Gras, Spring Break and Shakespeare (although in this case Cervantes) festival all rolled into a beautiful colonial town called Guanajuato, Mexico. It is one of the most important art celebrations in Mexico and Latin America. Initiated in 1972 (oh good, they did not start this too much before my birth!) by the local government of Guanajuato. Guanajuato a town founded in 1546 and declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. This city is a paradigm of colonial architecture located in the heart of Mexico. It earned the name, Cervantine Capital of America.
The festival's origins and homage is to Don Miguel de Cervantes (you know, writer of Don Quixote de la Mancha), the festival is dedicated to all Castillian creative arts. Each year the festival captures the tradition of the University of Guanajuato Theatre. In actuality, the festival's programming has opened its way to diverse art concepts and exchanges of ideas.
Aside from it's important place in the world arts festivals, the International Cervantino Festival is member of the European Festival Associations and the Asian Association of Arts.
In the last 35 celebrations, it's programming has made possible cultural gatherings from all regions of the world. This year the festival welcomes its guest of honer, Cataluna and the state of Campeche.
During 19 days, the festival will celebrate miles of different types of artists and from all continents. This is an extraordinary opportunity to come close with and enjoy the best in dance, music, theatre, visual arts and movies. The programming, the coming together of all races and cultures for art.
